This is a pleasant walk with a mixture of forest paths, field margins and a small amount of road walking. Starting through the trees along the path towards St Cuthbert’s way and following it to the road where we turn right and continue past Folly Loch until we head back along the forest paths to Peniel Heugh. There’s a gentle climb through the trees until we reach a stile. Once over this there’s a short and moderately steep climb to the foot of the Waterloo Monument where ,weather permitting, there are great views in all directions. Then a gentle descent to the road and across into the Monteviot Estate from where we follow the river back to Harestanes.
Food & drink for 2 stops
Boots & poles recommended due to uneven terrain
Refreshments and toilets available at Harestanes and Woodside Garden Centre.
Notes for non-members.

If you haven't walked before with any Ramblers groups, we allow you to walk with us for a maximum of 3 walks, before you decide whether to join the Ramblers.
If you are new to us, please tell the walk leader what kind of walking you do, and are comfortable with. The leader knows the walk and will advise whether it is suitable for you, or if it is better for you to start with a leisurely walk, so that you can judge your fitness. We don't want you to be disappointed by your first walk.
