A slightly strenuous walk due to its distance of 23 km and an expected brisk pace, but with a rather small total ascent of 150 meters. The walk is in two parts with a double loop from Penn Street Common. There is the option to either do the morning or the afternoon route only.
Morning route 10.00 am to 13.00 pm: From Penn Street, we head west through Penn Wood before turning south towards Gravelly Way Plantation and the Larches near Tylers Green. Once reaching Puttenham Place farm, we walk east to Penn Bottom and Glory Farm. We then walk south on Fagnall lane until we join the footpath which leads to Hertfordshire House. From there, we head north to Coleshill until we catch the Chiltern Way, which we follow to Winchmore Hill. From there, we walk north-west, passing Penn Street farm in the distance before arriving back on Penn Common.
Afternoon route 14.00 pm to 16.30 pm: Leaving Penn Street, we walk down to the edge of Little Missenden following Toby’s Lane. Then, we follow the Chiltern Way to north edge of Amersham Old town before turning west towards Little Summerville's wood. Walking around the Rough Park we reach Amersham road and Penn's wood before ending the walk on the common.
