A walk on the wilde side (well, not too wild) of the Long Mynd. Starting in the delightful village of Picklescott, we'll ascend the Long Mynd via a sustained push up The Shropshire Way, climbing Wilderley Hill.
The views back from here are great and we probably won't see many people going this way!
At Thresholds - a regular haunt of Shropshire's answer to 'who wrote that famous but not great novel' - Mary Webb - we'll head for Robin Hood's Butts, a little drag along the Port Way and in no time we'll be at The Shooting Box barrow for lunch. We'll then descend via Priory Cottage to Coates Farm, through past The Bridges (maybe resisting the urge to stop at The Horseshoes Inn - maybe, maybe not), then head up through the Golden Valley (it's as lovely as the name suggests). Then drop over the Portway again, descend the Betchcott Hills and back in Pickelscott, hopefully in time for a pub visit to The Bottle and Glass where you'll all buy the walk leader a pint.
12 miles in all, with 1100ft of ascent. We'll be going at a sensible pace, so expect to be out in the hills for 6 hours.
It's a lovely part of the world - and will definitely be quieter than Carding Mill Valley.
Please text the walk leader to book on and to find out exact meeting point.
Any questions, please do let me know.
