An early spring walk in vintage Somerset countryside. From the well cared for village of Pilton, famous for 'that' festival, we walk past Worthy Farm to working farmland where hares can be spotted. Initially quite a level walk, after coffee stop at Pylle we climb up hill to reach apple orchards and views of the disused railway line. Another short climb takes us to the top of Pennard Hill where evidence abounds of the famous Glastonbury Festival. Great views across the vale and beyond. Having climbed up hill the return route gives us a steep drop down a country lane with violets in the bank. Finally we stride across the fields and sites used by the festival to provide camping and entertainment. In Pilton walkers can view the Tithe Barn (may or may not be open), restored to honour the Land Army Girls. Another detour takes us to the impressive village church. Finally a walk through the pretty village of Pilton to complete the walk.
Please wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. A very rural area of Somerset. You will need a good standard of fitness for this walk. The distance is hard to judge. On the map 7.5 miles, on the pedometer 9 miles!
Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but there are several stiles to negotiate.
