We are the West Berkshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A circular walk of approximately 11.5 miles primarily across Downland with a woodland section and part of the Clarendon Way. Heading south west from the car park we pass to the south of Mount Down and loop round to enter Parnholt Wood where we stop for coffee. Continuing along Furze Down we then turn east and pick up the Clarendon Way for a gradual, albeit quite a long, climb up to Farley Mount with spectacular views to the north, weather permitting. Here we stop for lunch. Initially we continue on the Clarendon Way before heading off to explore Farley Mount Country Park where we "may" find the site of a Roman Villa and an ancient copse.
A significant part of the route is on well maintained tarmac/gravel access roads/woodland tracks although there are some muddy sections on the Clarendon Way. Whilst most of the ascent is relatively gradual there is 335m/1100ft in total. There are three gates and no stiles.

The walk will start from the Pitt Down Junction Car Park which is at the junction of three roads. As there are a number of car parks in the immediate vicinity serving Pitt Down and the Farley Country Park please ensure you are in the correct one. The grid reference is a better indicator than the post code and google maps pinpoints the exact location using the car park name. This is the largest of the local car parks, however, it is very popular so car sharing where possible please
