Overview

Anne will lead this walk so please contact her to let her know if you'd like to join us: annebuchan3@gmail.com; 07586 664345.

Overview: We will visit two recently created paths in Kilbirnie/Glengarnock.  Walkers looking for a shorter/half walk can join this walk for approximately 4.5 miles.

Hazards: One small stream to be crossed using stepping stones.

The walk will commence from Glengarnock Station, walking through Glengarnock, crossing the river Garnock. We will pass through an overgrown lane between two fields coming out at the outskirts of Kilbirnie, where we will cross with care the main A737 road into Kilbirnie, entering a quiet country road (Boag Road). We will walk up this road which rises steadily, turning into Place Woodland where we will stop for a tea break in a bothy style shelter/outdoor seating. Following this break, we will walk through one side of the Place Woodland loop, taking care when crossing a small stream utilising the stepping stones. We exit at a local housing scheme, passing through the local park before passing the ruins of Nethermill (pictured) coming out at Lochshore Park. The terrain is now good footpaths/cycle paths, we will do a short loop of one of the paths prior to stopping for lunch at the Lochshore café, which has indoor/outdoor seating and toilets. After lunch we will undertake the loop of the other side of the Loch prior to returning to the station carpark.

Although the full wallk is 9 miles long in total, it can be split – whereby ramblers wishing to undertake a shorter walk of 4 to 5 miles, could meet with the group at the lunch break approx. 12.45 pm at the Lochshore Hub, postcode KA14 3AP –  car parking available and it’s a 10 minute walk from Glengarnock train station, to share lunch and join the others to walk the remainder of the walk  on good paths.

All walkers please make clear to Anne whether they want to join the full or half walk.  Walk leader Anne Buchan mobile 07586664345 email annebuchan3@gmail.com
