The walk starts at the Chatelherault Country Park Visitor Centre. There are a number of car parks, the nearest to the visitor centre being the one by the children's playground or the one beyond the barrier that closes at 5. We will meet by the main entrance to the visitor centre (where there are toilets).
It's a funny shaped, undulating walk on good tracks. We start along an avenue of trees and go down to and then along the River Avon before crossing the river and walking up to the 11th Duke of Hamilton's Monument. We walk along the top of the gorge passing the 700 year old Cadzow oaks and earthworks before descending to the river and crossing back over the river and up the other side before walking back to the visitor centre where those of us who want can have a cuppa.
There are one flight of steps down at the beginning of the walk and two flights upwards. The latter flight up is a bit of an effort, but everyone can take it at their own pace and the good news is that once at the top the steps the rest of the walk is pretty level.
