Ramsbottom is home to the East Lacashire Railway and sits below Holcombe Moor, with the Peel Tower within easy reach for both A & B walkers. C Walkers may find the Irwell Sculpture Trail more appealing. Whilst we could travel there via the M62 today we will pick-up on our going south route, and then use the M58, M6 and M65 (stopping at the Junction 4 Services). Then the A56, past Haslingden, to Ramsbottom.
Three walks will be available, with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy tp Strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Derek Hulse - 9.5 miles with 1400ft of ascent. This walk starts from the Holden Arms near Haslingden and head for Holden Head Moor, walking along the Rossendale Way to Beetle Hill. Then a spooky walk through Buckden Wood for lunch. Followed by a walk through Stubbins Wood into Ramsbottom.
B Walk Leader - Dave Scowcroft
C Walk Leader - Chris Bennett - 6.5 miles with 650ft of ascent, Starting from near the Railway Station in Ramsbottom we head north along the Irwell Sculoture Trail to Chatterton, and on to the village of Irwell Vale. Then, following the river, to our lunch stop near Bridge End. Our return is mostly along the disused railway back to Chatterton, and the Irwell Sculpture Trail to Ramsbottom.
