A moderate circular walk of just over 10 miles. From Hovingham village, we follow the Ebor Way across fields to Cawton, then follow the Green Lane to Blackdale Farm. At lunchtime, we explore Forestry land on Coulton Moor before making our return via Potter Hill Farm and Swathgill. From Coulton, the return is on public and permissive footpaths on the Hovingham estate following the stream through parkland back to the village.
The route follows lanes, field edges and forest tracks. It will be muddy in places, so boots are essential. There are some fallen trees to negotiate in the forestry and an area of recent felling. Walking poles will be useful. There is a variety of scenery including historic villages, arable and livestock farming and a large country estate. Refreshments are available in Hovingham. £2 donation requested for car parking at village hall.
