An early winter walk from Sheriff Hutton, a village possessing a long history. The church of St Helen and the Holy Cross contains the tomb of Edward Middleham, Prince of Wales, the son of Richard III. It is the only tomb of the royal family in an English parish church. Next to the churchyard are the earthworks of a Norman motte and bailey castle. The ruins of the later 14th century castle tower over the village and can be seen from far away.
Our walk starts from the village hall and heads for Terrington via Witherholme and Dalby Carr. After lunch in Terrington we return to Sheriff Hutton along the Ebor Way. This fairly flattish walk takes us along national footpaths, bridleways with some walking along quiet country roads.
Assistance dogs only with the prior consent of the leader.
We have permission to park in the village hall car park - a donation of £2 per car is invited.
