Overview

Taking inspiration from Steve F's walk details, and a news article I saw last year, I have planned a route from Shadwell to Roundhay Park.

I have been to Roundhay Park before, but not recently, and I have not walked the route to/from Shadwell before, so some time spent navigating may be required.

From the meeting/starting point, we'll walk up Main Street in the direction of the Red Lion pub.  We'll cross over the road onto Colliers Lane, at the end of which is a track leading towards Roundhay Park.  We'll cross over the A6120 using the pedestrian crossing/traffic lights, then continue across fields into woodland.  We'll walk around part of Waterloo Lake, then have a look at the exterior of The Mansion.  Depending on timing as we head around the lake, we'll stop somewhere for lunch (bring your own lunch).

We continue to the Castle Folly, and follow the sculpture trail to Park Lane.  The link below has details of the sculptures, the trail is described in the opposite direction to our route.

We'll pass Roundhay Park Golf Club, then cross the A6120 - care will be required here as it can be a busy road and there are no traffic lights here   Then we'll return to Shadwell, finishing by the pub.

We will meet on Main Street at the junction with Blind Lane, in the centre of Shadwell, at a small green which has a stone with the village name on it.  The roads around the green are narrow so it is not possible to park here.  A short drive away are Gateland Drive and Blind Lane (both accessed from Gateland Lane or Colliers Lane) - looking at Google Maps, these are wider roads, where it should be possible to park, but they are residential so please park considerately.  There also seems to be some roadside parking available on Main Street close to the junction of Colliers Lane and the Red Lion pub.  The walk will finish at the pub.  There is a bus stop close to the start and finish points of the walk (these are separate locations).  If you are driving, please use the pavement on Main Street to walk to the start point.
