Short Walk: Beaconwood Bluebells

A 4-5 mile circular walk in North Worcestershire which should offer a timely and spectacular display of native bluebells After a short stroll along Rubery village high street we arrive at a section of the North Worcestershire Path. We follow this tree-lined path steadily uphill until we arrive at Beacon Hill, which offers extensive views towards Birmingham. We then continue through woodland beside a quiet lane before cutting through fields to Beacon Farm, where we follow a footpath into Beaconwood and its enchanting bluebells. At the bottom of the wood we reach a picturesque cottage and garden before passing through an iron gate into a secret bluebell wood known as 'The Winsel'. We then follow a winding country lane, passing by a field of Highland cattle before reaching Lizzie's Farm and Tea Room, and an opportunity for a timely break and refreshments. We then rejoin the lane uphill until we reach the southern gateway to the Waseley Hills. On the opposite side we pass through a gate and enter Broadmoor Wood, where hopefully the bluebells will be at their magical best. Finally we return through St. Chad's Park for our journey home. PLEASE NOTE: This is an undulating walk with some steepish sections and may be muddy in places. Walking poles may be helpful, and stout footwear essential.
