Another in a series of walks heading ever westwards towards Winchester.
This walk starts high on the downs above Cocking. We follow the wide downland track before ending down by the River Arun at Amberley. There are two long steady climbs and three steep descents . The rest of the walk involves flatter sections on the top of the downs, passing through wooded sections and other parts with wider views.
This is a longish walk 11.5 miles but paths are generally good. Boots will be required as there are remote sections and some stony paths. Ascent 278 m Descent 382m.
Packed lunch and water will be essential- there is a chance to get a sit down, a coffee and a snack at one point at Upwaltham but this isn't always open. Refreshments are available at pubs and cafes at the end.
Sun and rain protection essential as usual.
Drivers can park at Cocking Hill car park and Amberley station- this will involve paring with another driver.
Public transport connections between Chichester and Amberley are probably easier. Join the leader at Brighton, Chichester or stations in between!
If travelling independently to Chichester we will be catching the 60 bus at 1025 from the bus station.
