The walk begins at the "top" of Stocksbridge and heads up towards Bolsterstone for coffee break in the attractive and historic village centre . Then on past Waldershaigh to Whitwell Moor, with its beautiful woods, open heath, and some lovely views over the Ewden Valley. From there the route descends through woodland with more distant views, to a secluded lunch spot, before returning via Peg folly track to Green Farm Hamlet, then along a quiet road and across fields back to near the start.
In the main this is a fairly easy walk, but note there are several old-style stone stiles to clamber over!
