Circular led by Pauline L (Mobile No: 07976 953355). The main attraction of this walk is the pleasure of walking through the unspoiled countryside of the High Weald. The route at first follows the Sussex Border Path but soon diverts south to Tidebrook and continues south to historic Mayfield where the lunch stop is at ‘The Rose and Crown’ pub. The route after lunch heads northeast then east through Wadhurst Park, continuing north to Wadhurst village for tea. It is possible, on Saturday, to cut out the two mile stretch of the walk from Wadhurst to Wadhurst Station by taking the bus which runs hourly from Hastings to Tunbridge Wells and stops outside ‘The Greyhound’ at approximately 4 minutes past the hour. Map: E136, L188.
Check trains the day before. Buy return ticket to Wadhurst.
NOTE: On Friday 17th May the leader checked out this walk and noted that in places it was extremely muddy and unstable underfoot and considered that conditions were very unlikely to have improved significantly by Saturday 15th May. She therefore decided to replace it by a circular walk from Stansted Mountfitchet via Manuden, details of which can be seen at https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/substitute-walk-circular-stansted-mountfitchet-manuden.
