The 15 mile round trip of The Smugglers' Trail offers a variety of terrain, starting along the beach from Troon and then crossing Royal Troon Golf Course. The trail passes Crosbie Kirk and heads through Fullerton Park, passing Fullerton House (toilet facilities).From there we are surrounded by fields before some pavement walking through the village of Loans. There are some gentle uphill climbs in the final stages, passing farms, a reservoir and through Dundonald Woods. The trail finishes at Dundonald Castle and Visitors’ Centre (toilet facilities).From here we shall return to Troon by the same route.
For anyone who wishes to cut the walk short there is the option of taking the No 10 or the No 14 bus from Loans back to Troon. Trains from Troon to Central Station are at 16 mins and 46 mins past the hour.
This will be a moderate walk at a reasonable pace.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the Leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks in advance. Also, please provide the Leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
