This walk/social is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Join us for a leisurely walk and music festival social in the South Cambridgeshire countryside! Starting by Ashwell & Morden station, our walk takes us through mostly flat arable farmland to the village of Litlington, where we will go to the LitFest live music festival (free entry).
We will start our walk from just outside the station and head past Station Quarry, consisting of New Pit White Chalk dating as far back as the Cretaceous period. Then we will stroll through the woodlands of Morden Grange Plantation whilst enjoying a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside overlooking Litlington, as well as Therfield Heath in the distance.
Next, we will cross Ashwell Street Byway (part of an old Roman Road) and ramble across farmland, before strolling beside the village of Steeple Morden where we will stop for a short break.
After this, we will continue to enjoy some wonderful countryside views before we reach the quaint village of Litlington. The village is enriched with thatched cottages, some even including interesting features on the rooftops. Finally we reach the recreation ground where Litfest takes place.
LitFest is a free event where we can spend a few hours enjoying some live music, street food and beverages. The festival showcases a selection of incredibly talented, independent performers in the Royston area, with bands and solo artists such as The Kid and I, Natalie Gray, DJ Luke Richards, Georgia Nevada and Artaca bringing their own music styles to the stage including indie, rock, country and synthpop. See more information about LitFest and the artists performing at: https://www.litfestlife.com
Once we have finished at LitFest, our final stretch of the walk will take us across the Ashwell Street Byway again and more arable farmland, before we return past the Station Quarry to Ashwell & Morden station.
Please note the estimated finish time for the walk is subject to change, depending how long we decide to stay at the music festival.
Please note this walk is not suitable for dogs.
For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.
Booking your place: Please book your place using the free Meetup website/app. Join the Stag Walkers Meetup group and click the 'Attend' button on the event page.
Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.
If the walk is fully booked, click 'join waitlist' to get a place if one becomes available and please check back regularly as you will likely get a place. The waitlist gives priority to single bookings so if you wish to bring a guest, we recommend booking separately.
Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
This is a circular walk.
The start time is when we aim to start walking and the finish time is an estimate.
Walks are graded Easy, Leisurely, Moderate or Strenuous in increasing order of difficulty. Please read the walk description to check it is within your abilities and contact the group if you are unsure.
Please:
- DO NOT book onto a walk unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
- UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the walk and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
- DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying a walk if it is fully booked.
- *TAKE NOTE that if you no-show three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.*
- DO car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
- BRING a packed lunch/snacks and drinks, appropriate clothing for the conditions and optionally a basic first aid kit.
- FOLLOW NHS guidelines and do not attend the walk if you are unwell.
