This gentle three-mile circuit offers a relaxed way to see some of Winchester’s most famous sights.
Starting at the Cathedral, the route begins with a steady walk up the historic High Street toward the Westgate, one of the city’s surviving medieval gateways. From there, the walk continues past the remains of the Castle and through the grounds of Peninsula Barracks, where you can take in the impressive architecture of the former military site.
The route descends through the quiet backstreets, before passing the historic buildings of Winchester College. The final stretch leads south and east to meet the River Itchen, following the scenic waterside path along the Weirs to return to the Cathedral.
The walk is designed to be a steady, informal stroll lasting approximately ninety minutes. As it is a shorter distance, there is no scheduled tea break, though there will be opportunities to pause for a breather and admire the views along the way.
Please remember to bring a bottle of water with you for the journey.
