At a moderate pace and although quite a lot is flat there are rolling fields and woods. Starting from the interestingly designed Welwyn Garden City, and via attractive Hertfordshire countryside, we pass through landscaped parkland and along the river Lee. Our lunch break will be at Ayot St Lawrence with a chance to visit the garden of Bernard Shaw’s house. (Entry to the garden is free, but note we will not be visiting the house).
Lunch: Picnic/pub drink stop at Ayot St Lawrence.
Train: King's Cross 9:57 (Letchworth train); Finsbury Park 10:03; Arr 10:26 (please be aware there are slower trains stopping at Finsbury Park around the same time!) Buy return to Welwyn Garden City.
