Start in free Car Park, Holehouse Lane, Whiteley Green. This walk is prior to the ECR mid-week Christmas lunch at the Legh Arms Toby Carvery (12.45 for 1.00). It is under 5 miles easy/moderate with an ascent of 785ft. The main hills are up from Holehouse Lane to Long Lane and up the Gritstone Trail past the base of White Nancy, where we will stop for a coffee break. Depending on the weather, there may be ice on the roads or mud.
Route: via Chapel Meadows to Long Lane, Green Lane, Beeston Mount, Ingersley Road, Mill Lane, Gritstone trail at base of White Nancy, Dawson Farm. Return via Canal and Middlewood Way (My preference being to use the much nicer woodland path above the Middlewood Way which has 2 stiles).
It takes 6 minutes to drive from Holehouse Lane to the Legh Arms via Sugar Lane. Should leave plenty of time to get to the lunch. (Left out of car park, left at T junction on to Sugar Lane, left at T junction on to Brookledge Lane and drive all the way along. Turning into Legh Arms Toby Carvery is on the right, just over the railway bridge and before the traffic lights on the London Road.
