A varied circular walk exploring the rolling countryside, woodlands and parkland of the Woodhall Estate and Bramfield Woods, set within the gently undulating landscapes of rural Hertfordshire.
The walk weaves between woodland and open fields, with wide views across the surrounding countryside, passing through parts of the privately owned Woodhall Estate, a historic 7,000-acre landscape shaped by over two centuries of careful stewardship. Today it remains a “living estate”, balancing farming, conservation and community, with ancient woodland, farmland, wetlands and the rare chalk stream of the River Beane all contributing to its rich biodiversity.
We then enter Bramfield Woods, partly managed by the estate’s extensive woodland network, known for its seasonal displays of wildflowers, and its sense of quiet enclosure beneath mature trees. These woods provide an important habitat for a wide range of wildlife, from birds of prey to deer, and offer a peaceful contrast to the open farmland.
Please bring a picnic lunch, which we will enjoy at a suitable scenic spot along the route.
