A delightful, undulating circuit through the Fountains Abbey and Studley Park estates, via Abbey West Gate, Abbey Wall, Whitecliffe Hall, Hell Wath, Studley Roger and the ‘Seven Bridges’. Using footpaths, stony bridleways and generally quiet tarmac lanes, the route goes through fields and woodland and beside water, with fine vistas (weather permitting) and many features of interest: the remarkable church of St Mary at Studley Royal may be visited at the end of the walk. Led by Tania.
Care is needed on a short stretch of road at the start, with a series of Z-bends. There are two short but noticeable pulls uphill from the River Skell. Cattle may be in fields.
Refreshments available afterwards at the visitor centre cafe.
