SEBR Group walking in the Thames Valley

Walking in South East Berkshire

We are a very friendly and welcoming walking group based in Bracknell and the surrounding areas of Ascot, Binfield, Crowthorne, Finchampstead and Sandhurst. We offer an average of four walks/week varying in length from 3.5 miles to 6 miles.

The group offers a variety of walks to suit most ages and abilities. Many of the group’s walks are local but we also offer walks further afield, mostly within a 30-minute car journey. Longer walks may include a packed lunch break and most Wednesday walks will offer the option of a pub lunch after the walk.

Our walking community

We do more than walk; our busy social social programme includes a barn dance, a skittles evening, a quiz evening and coach trips. Profits from these events have been used to buy new gates to replace stiles on local footpaths. We work closely with the local Council Rangers to ensure that footpaths are maintained to enable year-round access.

The group recently undertook a complete circuit of the 78-mile Capital Ring (but not in one day!)

New members and guests are very welcome, please get in touch if you have any questions – we look forward to meeting you on one of our walks .

A winter walk in Berkshire

Join one of our walks

You are very welcome to join one of our walks whether you are a member or not. If you are not a member, please contact the walk leader (contact details on our web site programme) before the walk. The walk leader can suggest what type of footwear is advisable, especially in winter when many countryside footpaths can become very muddy. Also the leader can advise on the level of fitness required. Some walks are very easy if they are level and on good surfaces. Others can be relatively demanding if there are stiles, hills and/or muddy paths or loose surfaces. Also consider the use of a walking pole.

Visit to Steam Museum

The group has a VIP invite to Fawley Hill Steam Railway and Museum on Sunday September 3rd 2023. If you would like more details please email brian7poulton@gmail.com Fawley Hill is the private estate of Lady McAlpine in the heart of the English countryside. The late Sir William McAlpine created the railway and steam museum. Once described by Country Life magazine as ‘the most bonkers estate in Britain’, it is home to a restored Victorian railway station, the steepest standard gauge railway track in the world, a railway museum and over 20 species of animal. Fawley Hill hosts regular steam rallies and events
