Catch the 09.11 from Finsbury Park Station. There are also trains from King's Cross and Tottenham Hale. Buy a cheap day return to Waterbeach. Meet at Cambridge Station at 10.11.
We start through the terraced back streets of Cambridge for a little over one mile. Then east and north along the south bank of the River Cam and a small diversion through Fen Ditton. Soon back to the riverside until Baits Bite Lock where we strike east into Horningsea for lunch at the Plough and Fleece (five miles from the start). There is a small cemetery with benches for picnics and a cafe in the garden centre opposite the pub. Please bear in mind that in the last few years no one has taken this option and all of us have enjoyed Christmas lunch in the pub which is three courses, so will clearly last well over the hour.
I will update this entry when the Christmas menu is available and will then be asking for £10 deposits which I have already paid. Except for Val who paid her deposit last year!
On leaving the pub we walk along a short paved section of road and a number of fields before crossing the bridge at Clayhithe for the final stretch bordering a wood before the station. The whole route is level, on hard paths or across fields, but with ice and/or mud probable in places.
