Overview

Please note that you need to book for this walk and that there is a limit of 25 people.  Please book using the email link.

Catch the 09.11 from Finsbury Park Station.  There are also trains from King's Cross and Tottenham Hale.  Buy a cheap day return to Waterbeach.  Meet at Cambridge Station at 10.11.

We start through the terraced back streets of Cambridge for a little over one mile.  Then east and north along the south bank of the River Cam and a small diversion through Fen Ditton.  Soon back to the riverside until Baits Bite Lock where we strike east into Horningsea for lunch at the Plough and Fleece  (five miles from the start).  There is a small cemetery with benches for picnics and a cafe in the garden centre opposite the pub.  Please bear in mind that in the last few years no one has taken this option and all of us have enjoyed Christmas lunch in the pub which is three courses, so will clearly last well over the hour.

The Christmas menu is below.  Please let me know by 27 November whether you would like the Turkey or the Vegetarian option for your main course.  For those who have not yet paid I will collect your £10 deposit when I next see you.  Please note the cost of the meal is £28 per person plus optional service charge of 10% which will be added to the bill.

It is possible to drop out after lunch and catch bus 100 to Waterbeach Station. The stop is in Horningsea village and buses leave at 13 and 43 past the hour. The journey takes four minutes! Both these times work well with the train times of 03 and 27 past the hour for Cambridge and/or Kings Cross.

On leaving the pub we walk along a short paved section of road and a number of fields before crossing the bridge at Clayhithe for the final stretch bordering a wood before the station.  The whole route is level, on hard paths or across fields, but with ice and/or mud probable in places.
