We are the Winchester Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
We climb up from Kingsclere onto the ridge of Watership Down with its extensive views beyond the gallops on the Hill. A refreshment stop will be had here unless we need to move to a more sheltered spot. Using the Wayfarer’s Walk in part we head on along tracks and through fields to Hannington for a picnic lunch stop utilising the seating around the The Green. Our afternoon will be on tracks back to Kingsclere.
The walk undulates without stiff climbs apart form the one onto Watership Down itself early in the walk.

Meet at the front of the Church on Swan Street. There is a small free car park nearby on Anchor Rd but if full there is limited on street parking in parts of Kingsclere. There is free parking at The Fieldgate Centre 10 minutes walk from the Church meeting point and though it is free the recent street signage indicates it as Monday to Friday parking, this probably to discourage parking when users of the centre and sports field are deemed to have a higher priority. The signage M-F is probably to discourage parking at the Fieldgate Centre rather than something enforceable.
