A pleasant summer walk with splendid views.
We start by walking through the picturesque village of East Meon before testing our lungs climbing the hill above the village church. Following round the contour line of Park Hill, we skirt Barrow Hill before beginning our ascent of Butser Hill. After catching our breath, admiring the views, we begin our return journey following the South Downs Way. We keep to the high ground past Tegdown Hill, Hayden Hill, Wether Down and Salt Hill before descending to our start point.
This is a relatively short “long” walk but with two steep climbs.
This is a picnic walk. Please bring drinks, snacks for a morning break and a picnic lunch, as required.
The walk crosses rolling countryside and there are two steep climbs and one steep-ish descent. We have no need to hurry and will take these as slowly as necessary. Please bring walking poles, if you find them useful on such terrain. We walk mainly on grass, paths and tracks, with some quiet roads.
We cannot rule out that there may be some farm animals in the fields.
Please let the leader know you are coming as we may set off early, if all known walkers have arrived.
