This is a circular walk starting and finishing in the recreation ground car park on The Avenue in Alresford. We will leave the car park at 10.15 and take a 5 minute walk to The Swan hotel to deliver our food order. Then it’s off on the walk via Old Alresford and paths to the west, before returning via the River Itchen to the car park. We will then return to The Swan for lunch.
We will be encountering some lovely scenery, and enjoy downland, riverside walking, watercress beds and the attractive town of Alresford.
The paths are generally in good condition and walking is not difficult. There are no steep sections, and no gates or stiles. The route should be mud free, but if there is any serious rain prior to the walk there are a couple of sections that could become muddy. Therefore I suggest that you bring poles if you use them.
Parking is at the Arlebury Park Car Park on The Avenue in Alresford, SO24 9BS (adjacent to the recreation ground area). Please be there early enough to leave by 10.15 prompt.
The car park charges have recently changed. The website says it costs £1.20 up to 4 hours, and £1.50 for 4+ hours. Last time I visited, cash was accepted, or you can use Ringo. No cards. Car sharing would be good.
Toilets are available in the hotel.
