We set off across Cow Common exiting from the back and walking up around fields, and coming on to excellent panoramic views across the countryside. We cross over the road, through more fields and woodland to the Westover Fishery and then ascending towards Fullerton offering further great views. The fields here have verges of wild flowers which are very attractive. After a short spell on a quiet lane passing Fullerton, we join the Test Way towards and eventually across the West Down Nature Reserve. We cross the main road to Chilbolton, enter the west side of Cow Common and so back to the pub.
At the time of the recce it was very dry and easy going, with lots of blackberries en route for those so inclined.
The pub has an earlier block booking and so can't accommodate us until 1.30pm, slightly later then usual. The pub is very friendly though with ample parking and a decent, and not overpriced menu. They will be open from 10.00am to take lunch orders. We should aim to set off around 10.30am. The walk is almost exactly 5 miles with no stiles. There are two shallow upward inclines and then a shorter one in the West Down Nature reserve, but nothing too taxing. Walking poles would be a good idea.
Please book a place using the email link by Monday evening, confirming that you are staying for lunch.
