This is an 8.5 mile walk starting from the Bucks Head pub in Meonstoke at 10am.
The morning walk is 5.5 miles and steadily climbs towards Old Winchester Hill by footpaths and quiet lanes. We won't be climbing the hill, just skirting the base of it, but there are still very good views all through the morning.
The afternoon walk is just over 3 miles. We take the footpath to Meonstoke Church and cross the A32 to walk round the pretty village of Exton, briefly using the South Downs way. We return by a footpath and the Meon Valley Trail. There are two stiles in the morning and none in the afternoon.
Lunch will be at the Bucks Head in Meonstoke. They specialise in pizzas, but do standard pub meals as well. They haven't asked for pre orders, but would like to have numbers by Tuesday evening, so please let me know if you are coming and would like to eat at the pub by 6pm on Tuesday evening.
Picnickers can use the Churchyard or Church Green behind the pub. The car park is small, so could anyone not eating at the pub, park at the Meon Hall (SO32 3NP) a few minutes drive away. You need to drive past the pub to the top of the hill, turn left, then immediately right, into Pound Lane. The Hall is on the right, on the corner of Fry's Lane. There is no need to walk back to the pub as we will be passing the Hall at the start of the walk.
Please bring refreshments for a morning coffee stop and plenty of water. Poles might be useful if you normally use them.
