Overview

Exploring the wild moors above Painscastle. Following well trodden paths and tracks we will start by heading west with beautiful views of the whole length of Bannau Brycheiniog in front of us and the Begwns just across the valley. (In good visibility) This is a figure of eight walk. The first loop will be around 8.5 miles. There is the option of returning to your car or staying on for a further 3 miles to the top of Red Hill. There are no stiles. This is open access land, parts of which are managed for the protection of bird populations and other wildlife.

From Painscastle turn and drive up the road sign posted to Hundred House and Cregina past the Roast Ox public house. This will take you on a narrow road up onto the open moorland. Keep onward, passing a cattle grid and after about 5 minutes you will find an open area of grass where a footpath crosses the road and we will leave our cars in an orderly fashion.
