We are the White Cliffs Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
NB 09.30 start
This is in fact a ‘figure of eight plus one’ all starting and finishing at Alkham Village Hall.
1. Starting at 9.30, an eight-mile circular from the village hall up the north side of the valley with views of Temple Ewell and Lydden and returning via Chalksole Green airstrip to the village hall for lunch where there is a pub, church and seating. Expect to arrive around 12.15.
2. Leaving around 12.45, the second circular is circa six miles via Swingfield Street and back to the start where there will be another opportunity for a break and refreshments. Anyone wishing to join the walk at this stage is of course welcome. Expected return will be circa 15.00 with a break of 20 minutes.
3. Leaving at 15.20, the final circuit is around 4.5 miles towards St Radigund’s Abbey and return.
Please bear in mind the start time of 9.30 as this will be a longer than usual day if you choose to do all 3 circuits. As all three walks start and finish at the same location you can join or leave the walk during the day if not wishing to do the whole day.
It is a hilly route, but the good news is, ‘what goes up must come down’.
No toilets en route, but pub for breaks.
As the total distance is about 18.5 miles, I expect the pace to be brisk in order to finish at around 17:30.
