This is a 13.6 mile walk commencing from Appledore which is mostly flat throughout, with just a couple of small hills to enjoy.
On leaving Appledore we head along the Royal Military Canal, which is followed as far as Iden Lock. From there we turn to soon head uphill through Stone Cliff, to reach Stone-in-Oxney and St Mary's Church. Our route then heads in a north west direction towards Reading Street, where there is one small stretch along the road. The next highlight is the small climb up Chapel Bank - original known as Ebony Isle - and the eerie gravestones of the famous local acting Sinden family, amongst others located there. The final leg of the walk is through fields, picking up the Saxon Shore Way back to Appledore, via a pit pit stop at the Ferry Inn. Once back at Appledore, the Black Lion is useful for those in need of further refreshment.
