The village has a timeless charm all of its own, with immediate access to head north east on the trail to Monsal Head, where a benched picnic stop for elevenses with toilets near by is most convenient while overlooking the majesty of Monsal Dale and the viaduct. A northerly loop takes us to Great Longstone and then on to the Monsal Trail, before turning south towards Bakewell. A path from Lumford Mill leads us straight back to Ashford at the end of a beautiful walk.

Free Car Park, with access to toilets, accessed off Court Lane or Fennel Street – see STREET MAP for directions. Parish Council Honesty Box invites contributions of £2 for parking and 20p for the toilets to help with running costs. This is a small car park with 13 spaces, so best to get there early to secure a spot. Hence the earlier than usual start time of 9:30. There is parking available on roads close by.
