A pleasant and enjoyable ramble, mostly on good footpaths and later along quiet lanes, beginning with the Barnsley Boundary Walk above Elsecar Reservoir to join a good trail through the dense but impressive silver birch woodland of Skier's Spring Wood. Across the A6135 is the TPT 'Timberland Trail', and turning south east at its junction with Black Lane heads towards Harley and its village green with two benches, a convenient place to stop for refreshment. Our way continues along Coach Road which, although named as such, is in fact a quiet lane leading to Spittal Houses, where we head directly north to emerge at the old church at Wentworth. A bridleway through Barrowfield Gate leads into the corner of King's Wood, taking us directly back to the car park at Elsecar.
