The walk starts around the west side of the lake then out through a residential area, crossing the A34 at the pelican lights. We take a footpath to Bent Lane then turn off in the direction of Brownlow, but taking a turning just ahead of that, towards Dairybrook Farm. We do a very short section along the A34 verge, crossing with great care opposite Astbury Meadows Garden Centre and heading along a short lane to Whitethorn. We take a footpath to Glebe Farm, through Astbury and along to Brickhouse Farm. Here we turn left and head back to the Country Park.
OS describes the total ascent as 191 ft but the most evident up slope is on this last section. Not difficult but noticeable.
There are no stiles.
This is a lovely open walk and, on a clear day, there are long views stretching between Mow Cop, The Cloud and even as far as Croker Hill.
There is a possibility of cattle in one area - the farmer has previously strung electric fencing when turning out stock but this cannot be guaranteed so, regrettably, no dogs please.
Please bring coffee/snack.
