One of the quaintly named "Arrochar Alps", Ben Vane only just makes Munro status but has great character - 915m with very steep and rocky slopes on all sides.
There is quite a long steady walk in from Inveruglas Visitor Centre to the base of the hill which is at 200m altitude.
This is my favourite Munro and, although quite small, it is a challenging and rewarding climb.
There are a few steep sections, some false tops and some little bits of scrambling.
The ascent of Ben Vane will be done at a slow pace with as many short breaks as may be required by the group members.
The plan is that this walk is for those who may not be as fast and as fit as they used to be, and perhaps feel that their days of climbing Munros is in the past. Now is your chance to climb one.
Local Grade A
Work to upgrade the toilets at Inveruglas began on May 19th and was scheduled to take around 12 weeks, so this may, or may not, be completed by the date of this walk. This work meant that there were restrictions on the number of parking spaces available which makes the early start necessary.
There is a charge for the car park at Inveruglas and the latest information is that it costs £4 per day. Cash and cards accepted.
