Overview

From Scales, we will skirt around Scales Fell looking down upon Mousthwaite Comb and follow the traverse path before turning up to ascend Blencathra via Foule Crag and Atkinson Pike taking in views of Sharp Edge along the way. Once on the top of this lovely mountain, we will walk the length of it and descend via Blease Fell and the lower path along the foot of the mountain to Gategill. This is where we will then have to descend to the C2C cycle route and a short road walk by the side of the A66 back to our start as the footpath crossing Scaley Beck is very eroded and slippery with only an alternative path over barbed wire fencing. The paths are good throughout with a couple of becks to cross where potentially care will be needed. This walk is graded as strenuous due to length and height gained but will be taken at a moderate pace.
