Overview

Depart from the car park in the centre of Dufton NY68963 24989 at 09:00.

Walk will be led by Roger L.

One of the most important places in Cumbria for both a superb glaciated valley as well as major lead and baryte mining. The walk will ascend Cow Band to the 692m trig point (hill with no name 🤷‍♂️). Following Backstone Edge will bring us to some of the best views of High Cup glaciated valley. Descending to High Cup and then on to Maizebeck Scar footbridge. Expect a few damp patches on the loop round to Great Rundale Tarn and then a descent through the history (and minerals) of Dufton Mine back to Dufton.
