Overview

An easy lead into 2026! This was my first walk lead 4 years ago. We start on Renwick high street by the church. We walk along a quiet lane towards Hartside. We pass remains ( grass mound) ofย  Haresceugh Castle built by the wife of the Norman noble who founded Lanercost Priory. At Selah Hills, we turn right down a track to Five Lane Ends. We then walk along the lane to Kirkoswald ( 2.5 miles) passing Kirkoswald Castle ( built by King John 1210, destroyed by Robert the Bruce 1314 and rebuilt by Lord Dacreย  late 14th century ). Lunch will be at Kirkoswald. We then return to Renwick along Raven Beck...the footpath has recently been improved by the council. The final half mile to Renwick is on a quiet lane.ย
