Overview

We travel into East Sussex and to the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, for this 11.5 mile walk, starting from Brede High Woods.

Located at Cripps Corner, near Battle, the route through the Woodland Trust owned High Woods takes us out through some lovely countryside. The terrain is mainly on paths, over fields and other woods, whilst there is a stream through High Woods, with evidence of beaver activity. On going through the woods, we pass Powdermill Reservoir, whilst there are a couple of short lengths of quiet road that we will need to walk on.

The planned snack break stop will be at Brede church, where there are benches, and for those who wish, opposite is the Red Lion pub for drinks.

The route is undulating with some gradual climbs throughout, but with just over 1000 foot of ascent, it therefore falls into the category of the moderate walk grading.

Walk leader is Steve Bourne

There are two car parks in High Woods, this walk starts at the second one which will be on your left when driving on the B2089. This road is the Broad Oak to Cripps Corner one, which runs along the northern edge of Brede. However, the post code could take you to Stocklands Farm, which is on a narrow lane that comes out onto the B2089, not far from the start of walk car park. Turn left at the T-junction and the car park is just a few hundred metres on your right hand side.
