Overview

Figure of eight walk from Broadbottom to Werneth Low and Cown Edge. A generally moderate walk with two moderately strenuous climbs, to Idle Hill and Cown Edge.

Route: We start by walking through the Lymefield and Broadbottom Heritage site, passing the ruins of a 19th century cotton mill complex, then on generally good paths to Idle Hill and continuing to the viewpoint at Werneth Low war memorial, then back to Botham’s Hall to complete the west loop.  We then make our way steadily uphill to Cown Edge and return to Lymefield via Charlesworth and Higher Gamesley.

Waypoints: Lymefield – Hodgefold - Botham’s Hall - Idle Hill - Werneth Low - Uplands Farm – Botham’s Hall – Cown Edge Way – Boarfold - Woodseats – Chisworth – Moorside – Cown Edge – Charlesworth – Higher Gamesley - Lymefield.

Paths generally good but some occasional mud. Poles could be useful. Bring lunch, drinks and snacks.  No dogs please.
