A typical Carmarthenshire country walk, with green lanes, open fields, steep woodland, rushing streams and wide views. There's even the chance of seeing a steam train on the Gwili railway!
We start at the village hall and stroll along the Gwili river before turning to cross the railway line and head for Cwmdwyfran chapel. It's a good climb then to join a green lane and reach the walk's highest point, stopping for a drink to enjoy the extensive views.
We then follow farm tracks and lanes, reaching Newchurch in time for a snack in the peaceful churchyard. Our next section is a long bridleway, a bit overgrown and muddy with fallen trees to negotiate on our recce. Secateurs would be useful!
Some road walking and more farm tracks follow, with fields near woods where a buzzard watched us approach. Finally we walk along the road, cross the railway again and return to the hall car park.
Mud is usually guaranteed, possibly some fallen trees and there are a couple of good climbs. Sheep and cattle in the fields. Not suitable for dogs, except assistance dogs.
Free parking at Bronwydd village hall. No public toilets or refreshments that we could see in January 2026.
