This village is just east of the M6 and gives the A & B walk leaders the opportunity to walk over Hutton Roof Crags, Newbiggin Crags, or Holmepark Fell. Whilst the C party may well head for the Lancaster Canal. Where ever you go today there are pubs available for refreshments after. The first pick-up today is the site of the Royal Hotel in Formby, and then calling at all pick-up points going north.
Three walks will be available, with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave White - 11 miles with a total ascent of 1772ft. Staring near the church we head northeast along Slape Lane towards Newbiggn Crags. Then down to Whin Yeats and the footpath to the village of Hutton Roof. We go over Hutton Roof Crags to Dalton Crags. Returning to Burton-in-Kendal via Crow Trees and Home Farm.
B Walk Leader - Dave Eccles - 9 - 9.5 miles with a total ascent of 730ft. with a high [point of 400ft. We head west out of the village over the M6, Lancaster Canal, then into Hale Fell, Beethal Park, and if weather permits, across Whin Scar towards the Fairy Steps, and on towards Hazel Town. Down to Yealand Storrs, and head towards White Moss, heading east to pick up the outgoing path.
C Walk Leader - Dave Trimbath - Around 6.5 miles with little uphill. Going northeast along Slape Lane before turning west towards Oakwood Farm. Go past Curwen Woods to Sheernest and join the Lancaster Canal south for two miles. Leaving the canal at Yealand Bridge we then walk behind the Burton-in-Kendal services, going north past Hanging Hill and take the back road into Burton.
