This walk follows the Capital Ring, starting at Richmond station, and ending at Hanwell station, about 7 miles in all. The whole walk is within zone 4.
We will meet at Richmond station (overground, district line and national rail) at 10.30. There are toilets and a cafe in the station. We will have a short late morning break at the Syon House garden centre, where there are toilets and a cafe. We will stop for lunch at Osterley lock (bring a picnic lunch), and for a drink at the Fox Inn, Hanwell
The walk ends at Hanwell station which is on the Elizabeth line. It is also possible to drop out near Brentford station (after 4 miles) or Boston Manor station (5 miles). These stations are about half a mile from the walk route, and you will need to find your own way.
The walk is on dry, hard surfaces throughout, except for about 4 yards of mud. Mainly we follow the Thames, then cross Syon Park, then follow the Grand Union canal. There is only a small amount of road walking.
For more detail you can download a full description of the walk from the following links. This would be especially useful if you plan to depart from the main walk, by dropping out early or by skipping the pub stop. Our walk covers “section 7” (the first link) and part of “section8” (the second link).
