There is a limit of 20 people for this walk and booking is essential. Please book after 21 May, using the email contact link.
Catch the 09.02 train from Marylebone, change at High Wycombe (same platform) for the 09.45 to Princes Risborough and arrive at 09.57. Buy a return ticket to Aylesbyury and ensure that it covers travel via all permitted routes (including Princes Risborough).
A scenic walk, mostly along the route of the ancient Icknield Way, with climbs morning and afternoon. Steps take us up the steepest part of the climb, then we follow paths through some local nature reserves. Lunch is after 4½ miles, at The Swan in Great Kimble, and there is nearby seating for those with picnics. The Swan serves excellent pizzas, plus a few other dishes. Please email Annette by close on Tuesday 17 June if you want a pub lunch. There are two more climbs in the afternoon and great views make them worthwhile. The final descent to Wendover has steps at the steepest section. There is a possibility of refreshments in Wendover before catching the train back to Marylebone, depending on timings.
It is possible to drop out shortly after lunch. Little Kimble Station is very close to our route and there are trains to Marylebone at 42 minutes past the hour. We also pass a bus stop opposite St Nicholas Church, Great Kimble, for the 300 bus to Princes Risborough (Poppy Road stop). There are usually three buses an hour. You then retrace your steps from the morning, to reach the station.
We cross busy roads and a railway line, and some sections are along lanes without pavements. There are a couple of steeper descents, so walking boots are essential and poles would be helpful. It is recommended that ramblers use the toilets at High Wycombe Station. The toilets at Wendover will be closed by the time we arrive.
