Now a national nature reserve overlooking the Nene Valley west of Peterborough; Castor was an important place in Roman Britain with the site extending over eight acres.  A palatial villa was excavated in the 19th century.  The town was the centre of an extensive pottery industry in the valley producing the distinctive Castor Ware.

Refreshments are available at the Royal Oak pub which may not be open at the start of our walk.
