There is a limit of 20 people for this walk and booking is essential. Please book after 7 January, using the email contact link above the map.
Meet at Marylebone Station in time to catch the 09.27 train. Change at Chorleywood for the Chesham Tube train from the same platform. Use Contactless, 60+ Oyster or Freedom Pass.
A scenic walk with a few hills, including descents. The first climb is near the station and it's the steepest. Our route continues through fields and woods, with great views on a clear day. Lunch is at the Green Dragon in Flaunden, with benches in the nearby churchyard for picnickers. The pub mainly serves wood-fired pizzas, but they also offer panuozzo (warm pizza sandwich) and salads. I reserved a table and this is now fully booked.
After lunch the walk includes tracks, a grassy field edge, short climbs, the River Chess and woodlands. Finally, we walk along residential roads. It's 4 miles to the station, where there are frequent Metropolitan Line and Mainline trains.
Expect mud, puddles and a few sections along country roads without pavements, where single file is necessary. Possibility of snowdrops in the churchyard at lunchtime.
I didn't experience anything particularly challenging during the recce on 18 January, but there has been more rain since then. Walking boots are essential and poles/gaiters would be useful.
There is no lunchtime drop-out, though you could book a taxi from the pub. The toilets at both stations are usually open.
