A 12.1 mile circular walk, starting in the picturesque village of Chieveley and embracing the hamlets and villages of Nortrh Heath; Leckhampstead; Chaddleworth, Brightwalton Holt and Peasemore. An area of small communities typical of this downland region.
We follow a selection of footpaths, tracks and country lanes across arable fields, woodland and grazing pastures. Consequently, there is little shelter from inclement weather.
This is the Berkshire Downs, a renowned area designated a National Landscape (formerly known as a AONB).
The terrain is relatively low lying, but views of idyllic countryside could be possible.
The route essentially follows well used footpaths and field tracks, often connected by short stretches of country roads. Whilst the roads generally experience low levels of traffic, care should taken, especially on blind corners. The underfoot conditions are generally good (at time of writing) but sections can be muddy, especially on bridleways where the ground has already been cut up. Similarly, given the recent level of rainfall, and that forecast, any worked land has the potential to be challenging.
There are 7 stiles, of which 5 are single step variants. There are also and 3 sets of steps, climbing up off of roads.
Please bring sufficient food and drink for the walk. A morning and lunchtime break are scheduled with little or no protection from the elements.
The walk is limited to 24 participants, please book on line by 6pm Wednesday 21st February, using the link provided
