This is a circular walk starting from Cliddesden Millennium Village Hall. Initially, we head south and gradually climb to Farleigh Wallop, home to the Wallop family, aka the Earl of Portsmouth. The 20th century history of the 9th earl is interesting to say the least. We then head south on a broad track in a woodland valley, passing Bedlam Bottom, eventually reaching Moundsmere House. We head east from there eventually intercepting the Three Castles Path. We follow the Path for three to four miles, skirting Ellisfield, until we reach a section of the long dismantled Basingstoke and Alton Light Railway. We then head west back towards Cliddesden - be sure to take the opportunity to drink in the magnificent sight of Basingstoke, a few miles to the north.
When recce'd, the path was mostly good underfoot, with a few places where it was muddy.
There are no stiles.
Please bring sufficient food and drink for the walk. A morning and lunchtime break are scheduled with little protection from the elements.
The walk is limited to 20 participants, please book online using the link provided by 8 pm, Wednesday, 5 March.
