Overview

This circular walk starts from Hermitage Village Hall car Park and proceeds along the course of the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton railway in a Northerly direction turning to the East just before the M4 embankment past Furze Hill to the Yattendon Road.The route continues along the Yettendon Road for a short distance in a North Easterly direction before turning Southwards along a footpath towards Wellhouse. The route crosses the Marlston Road into Round Hill Wood for a mid moring break.  The route then bears Westerly uphill to Grimsbury Castle and associated earth works before decending the Marlston Road towards Hermitage and turing North along a footpath to the Fox PH at which point the B4009 is crossed into Roebuck Wood from where the route turns Southward to Doctors Lane.  From there the routeheads Northwards to the Hamlet of Oare and then back to the car park.
